GLS – terms and conditions

Terms and conditions of delivery by GLS courier – key points of the rules.

The shipper must properly protect the goods in the shipment to prevent damage, destruction, and harm to persons, the environment, the facilities used, or other shipments throughout the entire service. It is considered that the appropriate packaging used by the sender, in all cases, protects the postal item against pressure, shocks, leaks, etc., from dispatch/collection by the supplier’s staff to delivery to the recipient, under normal conditions of collection, sorting, transport, and delivery.

GLS Romania accepts shipments presented by the sender, properly packaged, with opaque outer packaging that does not allow the contents to be seen, and with all the recipient’s identification details filled in (first and last name/company name – for legal entities, including street, number, block number, floor, and apartment number, except for CashService shipments, which must include the sender’s identification details).

The sender is responsible for packaging the parcel and recording the data on the parcel label in accordance with the contractual arrangements made with the supplier.

Shipments containing fragile goods must be properly packaged by the sender, using padding, shock-resistant polystyrene, cushioning and filling materials designed to protect the goods, or any other material that mitigates mechanical shock, and must be labeled “Fragile”; The word “Fragile” serves only as a warning and does not protect the goods in the absence of appropriate packaging materials. GLS Romania undertakes to recognize and respect the inscriptions/labels attached by the sender to the shipment and to pay special attention to the handling and storage of the shipments in question.

The following conditions must be observed during packaging:

  • Only completely sealed packages can be shipped (closed shipping);
    packages with long, sharp protrusions are not suitable for shipping.
  • Boxes should be used optimally, ensuring the appropriate size and quality of packaging material, and the filling of the entire package should protect the goods from damage..
  • Electronic devices and other products recalled for repair should be shipped in their original packaging, complete with appropriate filling.
  • Bottles and flasks placed in packages should be protected by layers of protective material placed between them, as well as at the bottom and top of each item, with protective and cushioning materials.
  • Irregularly shaped goods that are difficult to pack must also be protected inside the heat-shrink packaging itself, using another type of packaging.
  • Cardboard boxes must be sealed on all sides with adhesive tape bearing the sender’s company logo, if possible. Boxes tied together in a bundle are unacceptable, as bundles may come apart and only the unit identified with a label will reach its destination; each box must be labeled individually and packed separately from any other shipment.
  • The bag containing the address, label, and stickers used to identify additional items must be attached by the sender to the largest side of the parcel, next to the GLS barcode label.
  • If multiple packages are shipped to the same address, stickers indicating the use of any additional features must be applied by the shippers to each of the packages.
  • In the case of legal entities, if CashService is ordered, the full amount to be collected must be indicated on the CashService list or, by electronic data transmission, as well as on the actual shipment, using a standard GLS sticker (if several parcels are shipped by the same sender at the same time and delivered to the same address, the sticker CashService must be attached to each parcel, indicating the amount to be collected for each parcel).
  • In the event of incorrect or incomplete information, GLS will attempt by all means to clarify the situation.
  • Goods with hazardous contents, even with external indications, are not accepted under any circumstances.

Because GLS Romania pays special attention to protecting parcels from damage, if you need more information about proper packaging, please read the guide. “Ambalarea coletelor” or consult your Ecolet account manager.
